Pushkar Fair

Pushkar FairAn astonishing 50,000 camels converge on the tiny desert town of Pushkar, in India's state of Rajasthan, for the annual Pushkar Fair. It's a fascinating and peculiar sight, and a great opportunity to witness an old traditional style Indian festival. The original intention behind the Pushkar Camel Fair was to attract local camel and cattle traders to do business during the holy Kartik Purnima festival, held in Pushkar around the full moon in the Hindu lunar month of Kartika. The fair has now also become a major tourist attraction. In the small town of Pushkar, near Ajmer, located on the edge of the Thar Desert in the state of Rajasthan.



Pushkar Fair also called as the Cattle Fair, is the 2nd largest animal fair of India. Thousands of animals are gathered at the cattle fair for trading. Traders come to buy and sell cows, bullocks (Nagauri breed is renowned), oxen and camel. The Nagaur Festival is held every year in the period between January-February in the quaint Rajput town of Nagaur.

Kullu Deshehra
Dusshera is a unique fair held every year in October. It is a beautiful amalgam of history, rich culture and customs. Unlike other regions of India here effigies of Ravana, Meghnath and Kumbhakarana are not burnt. This is how victory of good over evil is depicted. Kullu Dusshera starts usually on the day it ends in the rest of the country.



Sonepur Cattle Fair The Indian Fair Festival Tourism Sonepur Cattle Fair or Sonepur Mela is held on Kartik Poornima(the full moon day) in the month of November in Sonepur, Bihar, on the confluence of river Ganga and Gandak. It is also known as Harihar Kshetra Mela and it attracts visitors from all over Asia. Till date, it is the biggest cattle fair of Asia and stretches on from fifteen days to one month.



The Kumbh Mela The observance of Kumbh Mela dates back many centuries in ancient India, to the Vedic period, where the river festivals first started getting organized. In Hindu mythology, its origin is found the one of the popular creation myths and the Hindu theories on evolution, the Samudra manthanepisode (Churning of the ocean of milk), which finds mention in the Shrimad Bhagavatam, Vishnu Purana, the Mahabharata and the Ramayana.


Upcoming Kumbh Mela - ALLAHABAD 2013 Allahabad is located at 25°27'N 81°50'E25.45°N 81.84°E in the southern part of the Uttar Pradesh at an elevation of 98 meters (322 ft) and stands at the confluence of two river, the Ganges and Yamuna.
